3 young teachers from SDUST participate in China's 41st Antarctic Research Expedition with a self-developed unmanned vehicle

Recently, Shandong University of Science and Technology held a departure ceremony for its participation in China's 41st Antarctic Expedition. At the ceremony, young teachers Wei Zhengrong, Nie Yunli, and Liu Xiaodong, from the Polar Survey Technology and Equipment Team of the College of Ocean Science and Engineering, will start their Antarctic journey with the new generation of intelligent unmanned surface vehicle "KE-Hai 7" and unmanned aerial vehicle-borne laser bathymetry system, both independently developed by their team.

President Zeng Qingtian attended the ceremony and presented flags to the members, including the young teachers Wei Zhengrong, Nie Yunli, and Liu Xiaodong. In his speech, he congratulated the faculty and students of the Polar Survey Technology and Equipment Team who participated in the development and testing of the unmanned surface vehicle for polar regions. He pointed out that 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of China's polar expeditions and the third Antarctic expedition for the university's faculty and students, representing a solid step forward in the university's service to the construction of China's marine power. He hoped that the Polar Survey Technology and Equipment Team would focus on key scientific and technological challenges and priority areas, actively align with national strategies, and leverage their technical advantages to actively contribute to national polar and deep-sea scientific expeditions, thereby promoting the high-quality development of the university in serving national strategies.

During the departure ceremony, Aerofly (Wuxi) Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Xingtian Technology Co., Ltd., and Beijing Haizhuo Tongchuang Technology Co., Ltd. donated scientific expedition equipment to the university.
