Mount Tai Academic Forum Held in SDUST

Mount Tai Academic Forum--Advanced Materials & Su***ce Modification International Conference (AMSMIC), sponsored by Shandong Provincial Education Department and organized by SDUST, was held on October 30 and 31.

Prof. Ren Tingqi, President of SDUST, and Prof. Zhang Shiqiang, Vice President of SDUST, attended the opening ceremony together with 30 prominent scholars, experts and professors from different institutions, home and abroad, including the University of Nantes of France, Tohoku University of Japan, CSIRO Energy of Australia, Yang-Ming University of Taiwan, City University of Hong Kong, Shenyang Branch of CAS, Beijing University of Science and Technology, Tsing Hua University, Shandong University and Institute of Oceanology of CAS,etc. Some of the attendants hold the title of Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor, Mount Tai Scholar Professor, National Science?Fund?for Distinguished Young Scholar and National Talent Development Plan Scholar.

Chen Yunbo, Hou Baorong and Lei Qingquan, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, have sent their congratulation letters to AMSMIC.

President Ren Tingqi delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, extending congratulations on the holding of the conference and warm welcome to the guests present. He expressed his sincere gratitude to all the scholars and experts who have offered their long-time support to SDUST’s development.

President Ren introduced SDUST’s program delivery features, discipline construction, students cultivation, international exchange and cooperation, especially development of the discipline of Materials Science of SDUST. He said the discipline is young but has its own characteristics and specialties.

The College of Materials Science and Engineering has been designated to undertake several provincial research projects as well as over 50 national research projects including the 863 Project, the 973 Project and some key international projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology,etc. The College of Materials Science and Engineering has received over 16 national and provincial awards including the National?Scientific and Technological?Progress?Award, and the Shandong Province Award for Scientific and Technological Invention.

President Ren Tingqi met with scholars and experts attending AMSMIC on October 29. Faculty and staff from Human Resources Office, International Office and  College of Materials Science and Engineering also attended the meeting. President Ren introduced  the development of SDUST, expressed his willingness to increase communication with domestic and overseas  universities and institutions, and hoped that experts and scholars from home and abroad could continue to provide their support to SDUST.

This academic forum witnessed 40 academic presentations in which latest achievements and engineering applications in advanced materials and su***ce modification were deeply discussed. Faculty and students attending the presentations benefited a lot and thought that this forum was a good platform that could facilitate communication, broaden the academic horizon, inspire new thinking,and undoubtedly push forward the program of materials science and engineering, contributing to the social and economic development of Shandong Province.
