On June 26th, Yuan Junping, Party Secretary of CPC of SDUST, and Yao Qingguo, Vice President of SDUST,
met with Dr. Heather Forland, Vice President of University of Worcester, and her party. Senior staffs
from the International Office and Jinan campus were also present at the meeting.
Yuan Junping extended his welcome to the guests and made a brief introduction to the scale, faculty,
discipline structure, research, student cultivation and international exchange and cooperation of SDUST.
Dr. Forland introduced Worcester’s department layout, majors of specialty, student cultivation and
internationalization. In a friendly atmosphere, the two sides expressed the willingness to expand
cooperation, especially in joint education of talents of high quality.
After the meeting, the Worcester guests and senior officials from the International Office and Jinan
campus of SDUST had detailed discussions over the undergraduate joint education program of Finance and
reached consensus in terms of curriculum design, teaching method, course evaluation method, numbers of
courses and credits shared by the two universities, credit transfer, double degree requirements and
sending faculty in Finance to WU for training, etc. A teaching management committee for the joint
program will be put in place for better management and quality of student cultivation.
Background information: The University of Worcester is a British public university, based in Worcester,
England. Worcester is the only university serving the English counties of Worcestershire and
Herefordshire. Jacqueline Smith, the incumbent education minister of the UK, is one of the notable
alumni of Worcester. With a history dating back to 1946, the institution now has 1, 2000 students. The
University of Worcester has bachelor, master and doctoral degree programs; it also has research centers
established by organizations including the Education Ministry, UK Organizing Committee for Olympic
Games, etc. The joint undergraduate education program of Finance between SDUST and Worcester University
was approved by the Ministry of Education of China in 2013, and was listed in the enrollment plan in
2014.
