President's Message

I would like to extend, on behalf of the faculty and students of Shandong University of Science and Technology, our deep appreciation to the people from all walks of life and overseas friends who have shown interest in and rendered support to our development, our cordial greetings to domestic and overseas alumni, and our warm welcome to friends from other countries, domestic and overseas counterparts, and future international students.

The University was founded in 1951. In the past 57 years it witnessed rapid development through generations' wisdom, endeavor and pioneering innovation, and has become a provincial key university, offering comprehensive education in engineering, sciences, management, humanities, law, economics and education while giving prominence to engineering and the integration of sciences and engineering. More than 100,000 students have graduated from the University, who have made outstanding achievements in various lines and have made great contributions to China's development and prosperity. Many of them are important figures in academia, politics and businesses.

The University is full of youthful spirit. It was formerly established under the system of Education Run by Industrial Sectors and then became a provincial key university affiliated to Shandong Province during the new period of the fast development of Chinese higher education. The University's new campus with a total area of 3 square kilometers, is now situated in Qingdao, a coastal city along the Huanghai Sea. It is an ideal place for study with its spacious campus and the charming and harmonious contrast of the green trees, red buildings, emerald lakes and blue mountains.

We are proud of the glorious past and confident of the bright future. We will shoulder the grand mission the era and history have entrusted us. We must, on the principle of people first, center on discipline construction, exert the leading function of faculty construction, take educaion quality as life line, strengthen the concept of competition, quality and service, and push vigorously innovation in reform to live up to the mission assigned to us, and to make greater contribution to China's great rejuvenation and the development of Chinese and world higher education.
